The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori

Katharine Jefferts Schori is the first woman Presiding Bishop in the 2.4 million member Episcopal Church, breaking a 500 year gender barrier. She is one of the most visible women in Christianity today. Newsweek named her “one of the ten people to watch in 2007.”A Stanford graduate, Schori received her PhD in Oceanography from Oregon State University taught at OSU in the religious studies department, became ordained priest in 1994 and served a parish in Corvallis, she received a doctorate from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 2001, and served as Bishop of Nevada. Author of “A Wing and a Prayer,” she is grace under pressure, a woman for our time, one who can bridge the conversation between science and religion, tradition and contemporary concerns.
